or too COLD?
Then chances are you have a
poorly insulated home.
In fact you may not have any insulation at all?
Insulation is the most effective way to improve the energy efficiency of your home, helping keep heat in during winter and keeping heat out during summer. There are many benefits to insulation including:
- comfort is improved
- it generally has a pay back on cost within five to six years
- reduces the need for heating and cooling, saving non-renewable resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions
- can virtually eliminate condensation on walls and ceilings
- some insulation materials can also be used for soundproofing.
We all know about the failed Federal Government Home Insulation Program and the dodgy insulation installers, dodgy insulation, fire risk and poorly installed insulation that resulted. DON'T let this put you off. There are some of us out there that CAN install insulation correctly and give you good advice.
ECOMAD:
- can inspect your existing insulation and advise on the best options
- will install insulation the right way - old homes, new homes, or homes being constructed
- uses eco-friendly insulaton
- offers supply and install or supply only of insulation
- can guarantee that insulating your home will make it warmer in winter and cooler in summer reducing the use of your heatingf and cooling systems
There are many grades of insulation. It can be confusing.
For ceilings, insulation with an R value of 3.5 is the base product. R3.5 is the recommended minimum requirement for Melbourne. For some areas of Melbourne though, such as the Dandenongs, minimum R4.0 is recommended. We will advise all the options available to you.
For walls, either R1.5 or R2.0 is base although if you would like better insulation for walls with some sound insulation as a bonus then we have our R2.5 product is for you.
What is an R-value? This is the thermal resistance value of insulation. The higher the insulation value, the higher its effectiveness. Just remember, the fatter the batt the better.
Although we install insulation in new homes during construction, our speciality is retro-fitting existing homes.
We can supply and install the insulation for you or for those capable DIYers, we can supplly insulation and advise you on how it should be fitted. Just remember it really is a 'crappy' job and there are many obstacles and hazards you need to be aware of.
